About The Position

The Crew Leader Coordinator in the Water Department is responsible for leading and coordinating the daily activities of water distribution and maintenance crews. This position ensures the safe operation, maintenance, repair, and installation of water distribution systems, including water mains, service lines, valves, hydrants, and related infrastructure. The Crew Leader Coordinator serves to provide guidance, training, and oversight to crew members while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and department standards. Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of water distribution system operations and maintenance practices.
  • Knowledge of occupational safety procedures, including trench safety and confined space entry.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, and utility plans.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and motivate employees.
  • Skilled in operating heavy equipment and construction tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three to five years of experience in water distribution system maintenance and repair.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior crew leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred or required depending on employer.
  • Water Distribution Operator certification preferred or required based on state regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct work crews engaged in the installation, maintenance, and repair of water distribution systems.
  • Assign daily work tasks and monitor crew productivity and performance.
  • Inspect water mains, valves, hydrants, meters, and service connections for proper operation.
  • Coordinate emergency repairs involving water main breaks, leaks, and service interruptions.
  • Operate and oversee the use of equipment, tools, and vehicles required for water system maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, departmental policies, and environmental standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, equipment usage, and work orders.
  • Assist in locating underground utilities before excavation activities.
  • Train and mentor crew members on proper work procedures and safety practices.
  • Respond to customer concerns regarding water service issues.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance of water system facilities.
  • Participate in after-hours emergency response and on-call duties as required.
  • Assist with project planning, scheduling, and material procurement.
  • Work with the Well Operator to systematically flush water.
