About The Position

The Crew Dispatcher (Extra Board) calls crews for MBTA Commuter Operations to ensure that Train and Engine crew staffing requirements are met in a prompt and economical manner in accordance with procedures and instructions. This position will require you to work a minimum of 5 days a week on-site when called in with as little as 2-3 hours notice. The shifts will vary between mornings, evenings, and overnights and will differ each day. Requirements

  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a high-pressure office setting.
  • Must have intermediate skills in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Word.
  • Must be able to communicate successfully with a variety of disciplines and levels, both internal and external staff.
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and vendors.
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must have 5 years’ successful work history in a professional environment.
  • Satisfactory prior work history.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must pass a physical examination.

Nice To Haves

  • Strongly prefer at least 1-3 years of dispatching experience.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment.

Responsibilities

  • Calls crews for MBTA Commuter Operations to ensure that Train and Engine crew staffing requirements are met in a prompt and economical manner in accordance with procedures and instructions.
  • Work in a 24/7/365 environment.
  • Maintain records related to the use of crews on software and paper.
  • Make approximately 75-150 phone calls a day to dispatch crews across the network.
  • Follow FRA regulations to properly identify crew availability.
  • Comply with all related safety rules and procedures and report all hazards as required.
  • Attend and participate in all assigned training, specifically safety and security related.
  • Other duties as required.
