About The Position

Reporting to the School Principal and under the overall direction of the Education Authority, the incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing lesson plans, delivering engaging and interactive classes, and assessing student progress. The Elsie Fabian School is a K-9 school that opened its doors September of 2022 and we are looking for dynamic and passionate Educators who love Northern Living to join the team! The school incorporates both the Dene and Cree Language, culture, and Land-Based Education where students learn about their rich local history. Fort McKay is looking for talented educators who practice and believe that the well-being of the child is at the center of everything; this is the shared practice and belief of the Fort McKay elders, parents and community members. Requirements

  • Proven minimum of 2-3 years experience as a Cree Language Instructor in an Education environment.
  • Fluency in Cree language both verbal and written is required
  • Training in instructional methods and techniques is required

  • Experience in a land based education environment an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and Implement existing lesson plans.
  • Deliver engaging and interactive language classes.
  • Assess and monitor student progress.
  • Provide feedback and support to students.
  • Adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of individual learners.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Encourage student participation and engagement.
  • Help organize and participate in Cultural activities related to the language.
  • Develop and administer tests to track student progress.
  • Communicate with parents or guardians about the student’s progress, if applicable.
  • Participate in professional development and training programs
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the School Principal.
