About The Position

As an Underwriter on Bank of America’s Global Commercial Banking credit team, this role underwrites loans and related credit exposure for a portfolio of middle market companies across a broad range of industries, with annual revenues ranging from $50 million to $2 billion in the San Francisco / Greater Bay Area market. The underwriter works closely with Relationship Management, Debt Capital Markets, Investment Banking and other product teams to analyze lending opportunities and monitor the portfolio. The role reports to a Senior Credit Manager and works day to day with Credit Officers, fellow Underwriters and Credit Analysts.

The position develops and structures debt financing solutions, assesses borrower and transaction risk, creates and manages credit approval packages, builds financial and valuation models, and supports loan documentation and quarterly monitoring. It also exercises approval authority for certain credit actions and presents opportunities to credit and risk leadership.

This is a first-shift role with a 40-hour workweek, based at 555 California St in San Francisco. The annualized salary range is $89,000 to $187,500, with offers determined by experience, education and skill set. The role is eligible for an annual discretionary incentive plan and benefits, including access to paid time off.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) required.
• 3 to 10 years of Commercial Banking underwriting experience in Middle Market, Large Corporate or Leveraged Finance.
• Proficiency in accounting principles, financial statement analysis and financial modeling.
• Solid foundation in credit analysis, including evaluation of business risk, industry trends and capital structures.
• Understanding of credit documentation, including term sheets, credit agreements and ancillary agreements such as security, guarantee and intercreditor agreements.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Unwavering attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple transactions and responsibilities at a time.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with the syndicated loan execution process.
• Knowledge of derivative products and documentation, such as ISDA agreements.
• Capability to conduct negotiations with clients.

Responsibilities

• Partner with credit teammates, relationship management and product teams to develop strategic debt financing solutions.
• Use credit and accounting knowledge to structure bilateral and syndicated loans that meet client needs and bank risk parameters.
• Analyze ancillary credit exposure for treasury, rates and foreign exchange products.
• Perform due diligence and dynamic risk assessments of borrowers, industries and transactions.
• Create credit approval packages and manage the credit approval process from initiation through final decision.
• Construct detailed financial cash flow and repayment models, including sensitivity analyses.
• Complete enterprise value (discounted cash flow), pricing, returns and risk rating models.
• Ensure adherence to regulatory and internal policies and procedures.
• Exercise approval authority for certain credit actions.
• Present well-supported opportunities to credit and risk leadership.
• Partner with internal and external legal partners to complete loan documentation.
• Oversee quarterly monitoring exercises and requirements.
