About The Position

Ferguson is seeking an early career professional with drive, a great attitude, and a willingness to learn our credit business for the Credit Trainee program. This program is designed to accelerate your career in credit by teaching you the basics through mentoring, coaching, and on-the-job learning. The program is 8-12 months long, during which the associate will be active in the operations of the business, including time in the warehouse, on the sales counter, riding with delivery drivers, shadowing operations, visiting customers, and learning the technical aspects of extending trade credit. Upon successful completion, the associate will have an entry-level working knowledge of how to extend credit and build customer relationships. This role is the start of a career, preparing the associate to become a Credit Manager who will own a portfolio of accounts, be responsible for credit extension and collection, build customer relationships, and grow business. The Credit Manager reports to the Area Credit Manager and successful individuals may advance to that role, which includes managing people.

Requirements

  • 0-3 years work experience post bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, customer service-driven company.
  • Strong desire to enter a career credit development program.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including face-to-face conversations, phone conversations, and presenting in front of groups.
  • Ability to build relationships with high emotional intelligence and people skills.
  • Willingness to learn and be part of a team.
  • Must be open to relocating after the training program.
  • Ability to be open to living in a new location and being adventurous.

Responsibilities

  • Learn the basics of the credit business through mentoring, coaching, and on-the-job learning.
  • Participate in various aspects of the business including warehouse operations, sales counter, delivery driver shadowing, and customer visits.
  • Learn the technical aspects of extending trade credit.
  • Develop an understanding of systems and processes, emotional intelligence, sales process, collections management, credit management, customer relations, secondary security, Uniform Commercial Code, and financial statements.
  • Extend credit to trade professionals and build customer relationships.
  • Manage a portfolio of accounts with millions in accounts receivable.
  • Engage in the business, build relationships with customers and sales, and visit customers on an ongoing basis.
  • Grow business while achieving an acceptable return on receivables investment.
