About The Position

TD Securities provides a wide range of capital market products and services to corporate, government, and institutional clients. The Credit Trading group's primary function is to provide liquidity in the Canadian dollar investment grade and high yield corporate bond market and to support TDSI’s corporate debt issuance activities. The desk offers investment solutions and advice to institutional and retail bond investors, while providing best-in-class execution and distribution services. The group comprises Trading, Sales and Credit Strategy, and this vacancy is within the Credit Strategy capacity. The role involves contributing to the profitability of the group’s credit trading business, conducting credit research, identifying relative value opportunities, understanding issuer funding needs and pricing, and staying abreast of corporate events and regulatory developments. The Credit Strategist will also assess credit quality and ratings directionality, and publish credit commentaries and notes to communicate views and forecasts to colleagues and clients.

Requirements

  • MBA or undergraduate degree preferred
  • CFA designation or enrolment in the CFA program an asset
  • Experience in fixed income research or credit analysis preferred, including familiarity with credit rating agency methodologies
  • Familiarity with reading, assessing and summarizing bond offering documents and covenant analysis
  • Demonstrated passion for and understanding of the broad financial markets
  • Excellent verbal, written and in-person communication skills
  • Strong team player
  • Demonstrated strong business analytical skills, problem solving abilities, initiative and creativity
  • Strong computer skills necessary, including Microsoft Office applications and, ideally, programming skills
  • Experience with Bloomberg preferred

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the profitability of the group’s credit trading business and work as part of a team to maximize business opportunities
  • Conduct credit research on a portfolio of fixed income issuers and identify relative value opportunities across issuers, sectors and currencies
  • Develop an understanding of issuer funding needs and plans and pricing across the term and capital structures
  • Keep abreast of corporate events and regulatory developments to determine impact on credit profiles
  • Become familiar with rating agency views and methodologies for assessing credit quality and ratings directionality
  • Publication of daily and ad hoc credit commentaries to communicate credit views and forecasts with Sales and Trading colleagues, buy-side analysts and portfolio managers
  • Inform Sales and Trading colleagues and credit investors about new issuers coming to the Canadian market through publication of brief credit notes
  • Attend issuer road shows and reflect thoughts to the group and to clients
  • Present credit perspectives through formal presentations to institutional and retail investors
