About The Position

This individual will be responsible for making contact and providing direct services with youth and young adults in underserved communities that are committed to DYRS. This person will also identify high risk youth and incidents of community violence. This person will build strong relationships with community stakeholders, residents and government agencies as needed. This individual will also respond to critical incidents as needed. This person will fulfill all tasks as requested that are pursuant to a grant for violence, gang prevention, and intervention services for youth and young adults in District neighborhoods.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED with at least 3 years of direct human services experience preferred.
  • An ability to work with troubled youth and families in crisis.
  • A driver license and reliable transportation is a must.
  • Candidate must have strong written and oral communications skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Residents or candidates with demonstrable strong connections to the Ward 5, 6, 7 or DCHA communities preferred.
  • Spanish speakers encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the facilitation of individual and group counseling to youth and families.
  • Complete youth and family assessments. Develop 90 day services plans with youth, families and DYRS staff.
  • Implement and adhere to fidelity of evidence based curriculums.
  • Provide the Program Coordinator with timely and accurate documentation of all services provided, including client progress reports, court reports, Unusual Incident Reports, and case notes.
  • Work collaboratively with community based partners using transformative mentoring from the Credible Messengers Model.
  • Provide crisis intervention and triage case management services.
  • Seek out and obtain SBY and community services for the partnership endeavors.
  • Conduct on-going outreach to maintain steady influx of clients and contacts within the community.
  • Attend community subcommittee forums and events
  • Participate in community strategic community meetings/forums
  • Participated in community table events/community building enhancement events
  • Assist in organizing community awareness regarding supportive services to assist youth and families in crisis.
  • Establish and maintain community contacts and networking for the project and SBY
  • Assist in all new development and activity with the partnership.
  • Complete all reporting procedures and necessary documenting for the project.
  • Advocate with human service, health, court and local justice systems to resolve issues facing youth and/or families with regard to any pro-social advancement issues.
  • Meet regularly with youth and families to develop and maintain a consistent approach to supporting and expanding the personal growth and leadership skills of young people.
  • Provide educational, recreational and cultural workshops
  • Other duties as assigned
