About The Position

CityVet Briargate is seeking a Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT/RVT/LVT) who is confident in surgery and technician led appointments. This role will be primarily surgery-focused, with a strong emphasis on anesthesia, surgical preparation, monitoring, and patient recovery. While the position is surgery-centered, the Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT/RVT/LVT) is still expected to participate in general technician duties, including assisting with appointments, diagnostics, treatments, and patient care. The Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT/RVT/LVT) is responsible for maintaining excellent patient care and operational productivity by helping the Veterinarian leverage their time and efforts to meet the needs of the clients and patients. The Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT/RVT/LVT) works to relieve the Veterinarian from technical work and administrative detail to achieve greater levels of efficiency in daily practice. Credentialed Veterinary Technicians (CVT/RVT/LVT) help facilitate and streamline communication from the operating room, to the front office staff and most importantly, the client.

Requirements

  • Must hold a valid veterinary technician license in the state of CO (CVT/RVT/LVT)
  • Must have at least 1 year of veterinary experience
  • Experience in a general practice setting
  • Experience monitoring anesthesia and assisting with surgical procedures
  • Must be knowledgeable on veterinary medical terminology and medications
  • Comfortable performing technician appointments independently
  • Understanding and ability to properly and safely restrain animals
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Team-oriented mindset with a strong focus on patient care

  • Ability to triage in urgent and emergent situations
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs to waist height

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with dental radiography
  • Familiarity with therapeutic laser treatments
  • Experience in urgent care settings
  • Experience with exotic animals including pocket pets, reptiles, birds, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor anesthesia during surgical procedures and ensure patient safety throughout all stages of surgery
  • Efficiently prepare patients for surgery, including IV catheter placement, pre-medication administration, and monitoring equipment setup (Versa II Anesthesia System)
  • Provide post-operative monitoring and patient recovery care
  • Complete technician booked appointments, recording observations/treatment plans in the patient files, and perform medical treatments under doctor supervision, including:
  • Surgery rechecks (OVH, neuter, dental extraction, foreign body, etc.)
  • Blood work rechecks
  • Vaccine and other injectable medication appointments
  • Class 4 laser therapy treatments
  • Perform venipuncture and collect diagnostic samples for laboratory samples
  • Run in-house laboratory diagnostics
  • Performs and assists with administering radiographs
  • Effectively triage urgent and emergent cases
  • Administers proper dosages for vaccines, fluids, oral medications, and injections in accordance with CityVet’s policies and as directed by the Veterinarian
  • Properly enters in patient notes and Veterinarian medical directives into ezyVet medical chart for all clients
  • Monitor patient health, physically and behaviorally, and rapidly identify any issues or changes that may require special action and report the information to the supervisor immediately, through properly monitoring the vital signs for all animals under the care of the clinic for hospitalization
  • Admit and discharge patients under the advice and plan of care drawn up by the Veterinarian and communicated to the client through client education, both written and verbal, on proper wound care, wellness protocol, vaccination expectations, illness, medication dosage, the purpose of the medications prescribed, and what to expect in the coming days after a surgery
  • Prepare and present treatment estimate to the client and properly invoice the client once the plan of care is agreed upon and documented in the patients’ chart
  • Refill all prescriptions approved by the treating Veterinarian in a timely manner and properly store them until they are retrieved by the client
  • Maintain facility and surgery areas are sanitized and cleaned as outlined by the CityVet policies and procedures
