About The Position

PASADENA HUMANE is currently hiring Veterinary Health Technicians with experience and licenses (RVT or LVT) in our Veterinary Health Department. We are looking for professionals who learn quickly, have strong interpersonal skills and feel passionate about our mission. The right person for this job will be licensed as an RVT or LVT. We care for all the pet animals and wildlife entering our shelter. As a Health Technician you will partner with veterinarians to address the husbandry, medical and behavioral needs of each animal on its journey to a forever home. In addition to partnering with veterinarians, Health Technicians work with multiple other teams, including animal control officers, customer care associates (in adoptions, the animal resource center, the SNiP clinic), and volunteer services, to ensure that animals become available for placement as expediently as possible.

Requirements

  • Licensed as an RVT or LVT.
  • Comfortable working directly with animals in a medical and shelter environment.
  • 3-5 years previous experience preferred.
  • Master of organization.
  • Comfortable on a learning curve.
  • Able to elicit cooperation and offer tangible contributions.
  • Thrive in a work environment where the pace and tasks change daily.
  • Collaboration brings best results.
  • Confidence and experience in high quality/high volume spay/neuter.
  • Comfortable supporting high paced surgery, specifically anesthesia induction and monitoring.
  • Experience performing amputations and enucleations.
  • Ability to develop local block skills.
  • Ability to develop low stress handling skills.
  • Proof of citizenship or "alien right-to-work" status.
  • Pass pre-employment substance abuse testing.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with veterinarians to address the husbandry, medical and behavioral needs of each animal.
  • Support high-paced surgery, specifically anesthesia induction and monitoring.
  • Perform spay/neuter surgeries for cats, dogs, and occasional rabbits.
  • Routinely perform amputations and enucleations.
  • Develop local block skills and low stress handling skills.
