About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an experienced Veterinary Technician in Ophthalmology at our NE Portland hospital! This role focuses on diagnosing and treating ophthalmic diseases in companion animals, offering a blend of medical and surgical experience. The ideal candidate is passionate about veterinary medicine, driven to help build and organize a growing service, and eager to work with dedicated, high-skilled veterinary professionals.

Requirements

  • Experienced Veterinary Technician
  • Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT)
  • Unrestricted, current authorization to work in the U.S. and not require future sponsorship for an employment-based green card.

Nice To Haves

  • Advance skills in sedation/anesthesia including constant rate infusions, paralytics, ventilation
  • Skills in talent development programs and leadership workshops

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests (tear quantity, glaucoma testing, ulcer testing) and help hold patients for detailed ocular exam
  • Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic testing (retinal electrical function, etc.)
  • Set-up and assist with procedures and surgeries that restore comfort and vision ranging from outpatient procedures to basic and complex surgeries
  • Outpatient procedures: diamond burr debridement (to stimulate corneal healing), CO2 laser (to remove eyelid margin masses)
  • Surgical procedures including eyelid surgeries, cherry eye surgery, corneal grafts, cataract surgery, retinal surgery, glaucoma surgery
  • For patients undergoing sedation or anesthesia, place IV catheters and fluids, administer drugs through various route, perform and monitor sedation/anesthesia (with advances skills including constant rate infusions, paralytics, ventilation, etc.)
  • Anesthesia training is available with help or our anesthesia specialist
  • Help organize and maintain specialized ophthalmic equipment and supplies
  • Be the frontline in educating clients on their pet’s ocular disease and care
