About The Position

At Dimensional Innovations (DI), we’re Designers, Makers, Engineers, Developers, Strategists and Innovators working together to create remarkable experiences, places and products. Our work lives at the intersection of design, technology and fabrication. From immersive brand experiences and interactive technology to sports venues, museums, corporate environments and destinations, we bring big ideas to life—all under one roof at our Kansas City headquarters. Our summer interns become part of the team and have the opportunity to contribute to real client projects alongside professionals in their field. You'll see how ideas move from concept to design, development, fabrication and installation—and how different disciplines come together to create something remarkable. Throughout the summer, you'll build practical skills, learn from experienced mentors, make connections across DI and leave with meaningful experience you can take back to school and into your career. You'll work hard, learn a lot and have some fun along the way. As a Creative Technology Intern, you'll explore what happens when software leaves the screen and becomes part of a physical experience. You'll work alongside DI's Creative Technology team to contribute code to real client projects, build interactive prototypes and experiment with emerging technologies. You'll learn how web applications can communicate with physical hardware like sensors, cameras, interactive displays and lighting systems to create experiences people can see, touch and interact with. You'll also have access to DI's fully equipped technology workshop and be paired with an experienced developer who will serve as a mentor throughout the summer.

Requirements

Experience building interactive web applications using HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript, either vanilla JavaScript or modern frameworks
Familiarity with Git/version control and collaborative coding practices
An interest in creative technology, interactive experiences, physical computing or emerging technologies
Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to experiment
The ability to adapt and "go where needed" in a fast-moving creative environment
A collaborative, positive and professional approach to working with others
Comfort trying something new, learning from what doesn't work and trying again
Strong communication, organization and attention to detail
Students pursuing Computer Science, Interactive Digital Media, Electrical Engineering or a related field are encouraged to apply.
A portfolio or examples of your work are required to be considered for the Creative Technology Internship. We want to see what you've experimented with, built or created. Student projects and personal projects are absolutely welcome. Responsibilities

Contribute to web applications, interactive experiences and prototypes for real DI client projects
Assist with front-end development using modern technologies, frameworks, tools and workflows
Explore ways software can interact with physical hardware, including sensors, cameras, displays and LED lighting systems
Build and test prototypes in DI's technology workshop
Apply user experience and design principles to interactive experiences
Use Git and collaborative development practices while working alongside experienced developers
Participate in project conversations, problem-solving and testing as ideas move toward finished experiences
Explore emerging technologies and experiment with new ways to connect the digital and physical worlds
