About The Position

Creative Specialists support TEG’s ongoing component needs at the highest level. They collaborate closely with the Store Support and Product Design teams to understand component requests, propose creative solutions, and deliver quality components promptly. In addition to managing a production and development queue, Creative Specialists are expected to enhance process efficiency by suggesting and testing new strategies for bulk production while maintaining high quality standards. The role requires a passion for fabrication and design, proficiency in various fabrication processes (carpentry, scenic painting, scenic casting, assembly, metalwork, automated machinery), and a commitment to continuous learning and skill development.

Requirements

  • General understanding of the fabrication process.
  • Mid-level carpentry skills, including full understanding of operating procedures, general maintenance, and safety procedures for all major shop tools (table saw, lathe, planer, joiner, miter saw, etc.) and all handheld power tools.
  • Ability to create "bench-built" products and work with limited documentation.
  • Ability to perform entry-level paint/finishing tasks, including staining and sealing wood, basic rattle can spray painting, and prepping components for re-finishing.
  • Ability to perform assembly tasks such as installing hasps, hinges, drawer glides, and various sensors and tech devices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Product Care team and devise creative solutions for unique issues.
  • Ability to identify common issues within production requests and proactively develop solutions.
  • Ability to discuss workflow and resource issues with the direct supervisor for collaborative growth.
  • Ability to coordinate with local stores regarding schedule, access, and issues when on-site for traveling repairs.
  • A desire to continuously deepen knowledge and skill in the fabrication process, demonstrating dedication to craftsmanship.
  • A desire to learn new aspects of the fabrication process through on-the-job training (e.g., metalwork, finish work, mold making/sculpting).

Responsibilities

  • Understand specific end-product goals for projects.
  • Streamline the "idea to product" process through effective questioning, minimal-effort prototyping, and full-scale renderings that align creative vision, functionality, and maintenance access across stakeholders.
  • Create one-off or custom component drawings with minimal turn-around time, assessing drawing complexity based on product longevity, duplication needs, and deadlines.
  • Produce comprehensive drawings of approved components, including all standard production steps.
  • Collaborate with team members to gather and compile necessary information and documentation.
  • Produce undocumented, new component designs for R&D purposes.
  • Operate automated machines for production tasks, including CNC, Laser, 3D Printer, DTP Large Format Printing, and Vinyl Plotter.
  • Perform mid-level carpentry, utilizing most shop tools and collaborating as a builder.
  • Perform expert assembly of simple or complex systems.
  • Collaborate with content requestors (Product Design and Store Support) to understand needs and design requirements for prototyping.
  • Approach prototyping collaboratively with a service mindset to ensure the highest quality outcome for the eventual guest.
  • Bridge the gap between real-world problems, theoretical solutions, and applicable solutions within the existing Store Support and installation framework.
  • Assist in creating build and install documentation for a comprehensive understanding of component creation and installation.
  • Assist with drawing modifications (Redlines, Drawing Modifications), with potential to grow into designing new components from the ground up.
  • Work collaboratively with Store Support and Product Design teams to develop creative solutions for unique issues.
  • Identify common issues within production requests and proactively propose solutions.
  • Discuss workflow and resource issues with the direct supervisor for collaborative growth.
  • Coordinate with local stores regarding schedule, access, and issues during on-site travel for repairs.
  • Continuously deepen knowledge and skill in the fabrication process, demonstrating dedication to craftsmanship.
  • Learn new aspects of the fabrication process through on-the-job training (e.g., metalwork, finish work, mold making/sculpting).

  • Serve as a reliable source of knowledge regarding TEG’s historic and current product standards.
  • Advise on safe tool usage practices to the Product Care team and guide local store training standards.
  • Adhere to TEG shop safety standards and protocols, completing all required training.
  • Comply with TEG shop attire standards for safety and professionalism, always wearing required PPE and clothing.
  • Follow safety protocols at local stores during travel and ensure aiding team members also comply.
