About The Position

The Ontario NDP Caucus is seeking an experienced creative media producer to join our Strategic Communications team. This is a hands-on role for someone who can take a project from the first idea to the final product, manage the practical details of a production and create content people will want to watch and share. The role requires creativity, strong political judgment, excellent organization and the ability to deliver high-quality work on tight timelines.

Requirements

  • At least three years of recent professional experience in video production, videography, editing, multimedia production, digital journalism or a related field.
  • Knowledge, appropriate to the position of the NDP, the Ontario government and the workings of the Legislature
  • Demonstrated experience taking video projects from the initial idea through filming, editing and final delivery.
  • A strong portfolio showing excellent video storytelling, filming and editing skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with professional editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.
  • Experience planning and coordinating video shoots, including production schedules, locations, participants, equipment and day-of logistics.
  • Experience operating professional video and photography equipment, with a strong understanding of lighting, composition, audio recording, colour correction and photo editing.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce effective short-form and social-first video content.
  • Strong creative instincts and the ability to find the clearest and most compelling way to tell a story.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, including experience writing scripts, interview questions, voiceovers and on-screen copy.
  • Strong political judgment and knowledge of Ontario politics, current affairs and the issues affecting people across the province.
  • Demonstrated reliability and the ability to independently deliver accurate, high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with elected officials, staff, community members and people with different levels of on-camera experience.
  • Ability to respond well to feedback, handle sensitive information with discretion and work calmly in a fast-moving environment
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • A commitment to the values and goals of the Ontario NDP.
  • Familiarity with equity, anti-racism and anti-oppression policy frameworks

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the labour movement or NDP organization and election campaigns would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop original video concepts and recurring formats, and take projects from research and scripting through filming, editing and final delivery.
  • Produce short-form, rapid-response and longer-form video for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, X and emerging platforms.
  • Plan and coordinate productions, including calendars, schedules, bookings, locations, participants, equipment, travel and other shoot logistics.
  • Maintain regular correspondence with Caucus staff, MPP offices and external partners to plan content, confirm details and keep productions on schedule.
  • Maintain production records and liaise with contractors, vendors, venues, unions and other stakeholders as required.
  • Write and edit scripts, interview questions, voiceovers, captions and on-screen text.
  • Set up and operate cameras, lighting, microphones and other production equipment.
  • Direct people on camera and help them communicate naturally and confidently.
  • Exercise sound creative and political judgment in fast-moving and breaking-news situations.
  • Maintain production equipment and an organized archive of footage, photographs and project files.
  • Capture and edit high-quality photographs of the Leader, MPPs, community members, events and campaign activities for use across digital and communications platforms.
  • Work closely with communications, social media, media relations, research, outreach and Leader’s Tour staff.
  • Travel throughout Ontario, work occasional evenings and weekends, and perform other related duties as assigned.
