About The Position

Creative Leaders will gain hands-on experience in youth mentorship, literacy facilitation, and creative project management as part of the Carnegie Writers Summer Program. Participants will develop leadership skills while guiding enrichment activities and supporting collaborative projects with younger participants (ages 5–10). This role offers opportunities to foster creativity, enhance communication skills, and contribute to the development of a collaborative anthology.

Requirements

  • Must be a High School Intern.
  • Must provide own transportation to all orientation, training, worksite, and cohort times.
  • Must be able to work 6.5 hours daily, totaling 24 hours per week.
  • Must be available from June 1st to July 17th.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead daily enrichment sessions for Carnegie Kids' Club (ages 5–10), focusing on creativity, literacy, and the program's growth practices.
  • Guide participants through hands-on projects such as storytelling, drawing, and creative writing.
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor, encouraging participants to express themselves creatively and develop confidence.
  • Assist participants in brainstorming ideas and refining their creative projects.
  • Support participants in drafting, editing, and finalizing written and artistic contributions for the program's collaborative anthology.
  • Work with Club Leaders and Literacy Facilitators to compile and prepare the anthology for publication.
  • Collaborate with Club Leaders to implement literacy-focused activities, including reading, writing, and movement exercises.
  • Provide one-on-one or small-group assistance to participants as needed.
  • Help organize and execute special program events, such as guest speaker presentations, field trips, and the Showcase Event.
  • Actively participate in training sessions to prepare for program responsibilities.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive atmosphere where participants feel encouraged to share ideas and explore their creativity.
  • Monitor and manage group dynamics to ensure a safe and productive environment for all participants.
  • Assist in setting up and cleaning up activity spaces before and after sessions.
  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure daily schedules and materials are prepared.
