About The Position

The AMS Media Centre provides media and production services to the Queen’s and Kingston community, offering printing, photography, videography, and graphic design. They are also responsible for the AMS Agenda, the Tricolour Yearbook, Course Packs, and hood/gown rentals for convocation. The Media Centre operates as a student-run hub, blending technology with professional customer service, and is staffed by a team of managers, supervisors, and service staff. This role's contracted hours may increase during busy periods, and a portfolio submission is required. The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is a long-standing student association at Queen's University, serving as a service, advocacy, and governing body. The AMS also operates as a not-for-profit entity to ensure financial viability and supports student employment and out-of-classroom learning experiences through its services.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and plan for commissioned projects, produce drafts, and ensure final projects meet client needs and AMS Media Center standards.
  • Learn and utilize all AMS Media Centre equipment and software, including camera, sound, lighting, and computer equipment.
  • Attend all training sessions to understand department operations.
  • Monitor, maintain, and report inventories, product flow, and weekly orders.
  • Undertake Manager on Duty (MOD) shifts as needed, with potential increases during high-volume periods.
  • Exhibit a working knowledge of service staff portfolios.
  • Assist with new employee training, providing positive reinforcement and coaching.
  • Address and resolve customer complaints professionally.
  • Foster a warm and comfortable atmosphere for customers and coworkers.
  • Monitor employee performance against established standards and notify the Logistics and Staff Relations Manager of any issues.
  • Maintain a calm demeanor during high-volume periods to set a positive example.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
  • Maintain timely communication with the direct supervisor.
  • Attend and participate in all in-person and virtual meetings.
  • Complete all assigned tasks efficiently and attentively.
  • Serve as a representative of the AMS and its mission statement.
  • Complete other job duties as assigned.
