NPR is seeking a Creative Director, Motion and Video to lead the evolution of its brand in a saturated media landscape. This role is responsible for building new formats, establishing a visual language, and creating a video team at a scale the organization hasn't operated at before. The Creative Director will report to the SVP of Brand & Communications and collaborate with Product, Audience Insights, Marketing, and Editorial teams to transform NPR into a brand that can compete with new creators and challengers. The position focuses on driving a distinctive and cohesive brand, building platform-native video formats, and ensuring NPR's visual expression is instantly recognizable across direct-to-audience platforms. It also involves defining technical visual frameworks for integration across NPR's digital ecosystem, building scalable design systems, and identifying opportunities to use creative tools to increase audience engagement. The role requires establishing production standards, managing specialized video equipment, and developing recognizable approaches to motion, editing, typography, graphics, sound, pacing, and visual storytelling. The Creative Director will supervise a dedicated video and motion production squad and lead the creative development of various campaigns and initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities, audience needs, accessibility standards, and brand guidelines. A strong commitment to accessibility (WCAG 2.1, closed captioning, color contrast, screen-reader compatibility) is essential for all motion and video deliverables.
