About The Position

Program Mission: The Fortune Arts Community activates the restorative and transformative capacities of art, art making and radical joy to build community and imagine and advocate for future freedoms. Position Summary: The role of the Creative Arts Program Assistant is to support the Arts program to plan, coordinate and execute projects and programming that are in direct service to Fortune participants. The Program Assistant will perform assigned administrative duties including program intakes and referrals, documenting attendance, promoting the overall program and special events/workshops. They will guide participant orientation, co-facilitate art workshops and work on specific on-site and off-site art projects.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills with attention to detail
  • Artistically inclined; an Arts practice is preferred
  • Comfortable with navigating sensitive topics with community members
  • Strong organizational and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to manage time effectively, be a strong team player, remain flexible and possess a willingness to works as part of a diverse team with shared responsibilities and accountability
  • Travel Requirements – Requires regular travel to Fortune’s locations in Harlem, the Bronx, Brooklyn and other project sites throughout the 5 boroughs.

Responsibilities

  • Present available Arts programming to community members and staff to encourage participation in the program
  • Input and respond to referrals in the program’s database Caseworthy and conduct participant outreach/follow-up as needed
  • Conduct trauma-informed, strengths-based intake interviews to assess participant goals, needs, and readiness for services and partner with participants to co-develop individualized service plans
  • Manage individual calendar and the Creative Arts calendar, data entry, program incentives, program supplies and equipment, and participant engagement documentation including attendance
  • Co-facilitate, organize and execute arts workshops – design curriculum, set-up/break down at LIC and other Fortune locations
  • Take part in art projects at LIC and other Fortune locations
  • Contribute to brainstorming/ideation sessions on current/future programming
  • Contribute to maintaining and developing key strategic partnerships with Artists and Arts organizations
  • Help to plan, promote, coordinate, and attend events on-and off-site throughout the year including the annual Arts Festival in June
  • Attend staff meetings and weekly check-ins
  • Perform other duties as assigned
