About The Position

This position plays a key role in upholding the mission of Girl Scouts of Utah by modeling respect, integrity, and service, prioritizing camper well-being, and contributing to a collaborative, camp-wide culture. When not leading as Program Coordinator, this position supports general camp operations, demonstrating flexibility, teamwork, and a readiness to assist wherever needed to provide a memorable and meaningful camp experience for all. The dates of camp are June 7 to August 7.

Requirements

  • Must be a certified driver on council’s behalf (clear MVR background, be at least 21 years of age and provide proof of auto insurance and motor vehicle licensing).
  • Must have completed lifeguard training or be willing/able to complete lifeguard certification training.
  • Have the knowledge and ability to teach skills in ceramics (including safe wheel and kiln usage), drawing, painting, and other crafts and fine arts.
  • Pass a criminal background check, including sex-offender registries/driving records.
  • Hold/obtain Red Cross First Aid & CPR Certifications or the equivalent.
  • Hold/obtain a Utah Food Handlers’ Permit.
  • Complete Youth Protection Training within the first week of employment.
  • Ability to communicate and work with groups of campers ages 6-17 and provide necessary verbal instruction to campers.
  • Ability to follow direction from Team Leaders, adhere to policies and procedures.
  • Understand and implement safety guidelines and standards as outlined by Girl Scouts of the USA, the American Camp Association, and any state and local codes.
  • Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Ability to respond in a crisis situation.
  • Strong commitment to the mission and values of Girl Scouts of Utah.
  • Service-oriented team player able to work in an inclusive manner with staff/volunteers from diverse backgrounds and across all levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer prior experience in water sports.
  • Overnight camp experience preferred.
  • Possess good organizational, leadership, and teaching skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Camp Director in the development, implementation, evaluation, and administration of the council’s program for overnight camp.
  • Participate in and facilitate camp programs and operations.
  • Plan, develop, and manage a quality art program for all campers.
  • Manage health and safety conditions in the art areas.
