About The Position

Operates various power-driven machinery used to move dirt or other materials. May operate equipment such as a backhoe, bulldozer, crane, dragline, front-end loader, motor grader, cherry picker, or dump truck. Sets up and operates production equipment under established guidelines and procedures, adjusting machine settings to meet specifications accurately and in a timely manner. Works under immediate supervision and relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines.

Requirements

• May require a high school diploma or equivalent.
• May require previous years of experience in the field or a related area.
• Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the field.
• Ability to work under immediate supervision and follow instructions and pre-established guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate production equipment in accordance with established guidelines and procedures.
• Adjust machine settings to complete tasks according to specifications accurately and in a timely manner.
• Operate equipment using hand and foot levers to control diesel-, electric-, gasoline-, or steam-powered machinery.
• Interpret hand signals to determine where materials should be placed.
• Manipulate equipment on unlevel working surfaces when required.
• Assist with lifting, positioning, and securing materials and work pieces during installation.
• Perform routine maintenance or repairs when responsible for them.
• Observe and comply with safety and project rules.
• Observe load hookups and determine whether loads are safe.
• Control crane and hoist speed and direction according to written, verbal, or signal instructions.
• Clean and maintain cranes and hoisting mechanisms.
• Inspect cranes for defective parts, document defects or malfunctions, and notify the supervisor.
• Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Perform minor maintenance or cleaning activities on tools and equipment.
• Interpret load charts when required.
• Perform other duties as required.
