About The Position

This job is in the Plant family (Department), which includes positions responsible for supervising or performing metals processing and distribution work. Work includes specialized equipment operation and/or supporting functions and requires a practical knowledge of the nature and operations and the materials, facilities and methods employed by Phoenix Metals in metals processing and distribution.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of experience operating overhead cranes required.
  • 2-5 years of forklift operating experience.
  • Ability to show adequate manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multi-limb coordination required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions as applied to work situations required.
  • Basic measurement skills, including taking, converting, and/or using measurements of length, width, height, and weight to perform basic math computations correctly required.
  • Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions required.
  • Basic computer proficiency and working knowledge of software applications required.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively required.
  • Ability to make sound decisions based on a combination of factors including knowledge, experience, and judgment required.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with supervisors and co-workers required.
  • Strong communications skills required.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative required.

Nice To Haves

  • High School diploma/GED preferred.
  • Warehousing and material handling experience preferred.
  • Experience setting up, operating, and troubleshooting metal working machines preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operates overhead crane to safely move coils throughout the facility.
  • Loads and unloads coils from trucks in a timely and efficient matter.
  • Supplies and removes coils from the Cut-to-Length machine to support production needs.
  • Accurately documents coils into inventory using the company’s inventory system.
  • Verifies coil identification, weights, and specifications before movement or processing.
  • Performs routine equipment inspections to ensure the crane is in safe working condition.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area, reporting any equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or discrepancies in inventory to management.
  • Completes work order paperwork/documentation.
  • Responsible for adhering to/ensuring compliance with applicable safety and quality standards.
