About The Position

This position is responsible for operating assigned equipment safely and in accordance with good industry practices. The role involves manipulating controls to move loads, performing routine maintenance on equipment, inspecting components for wear, and ensuring safe operating conditions. The Crane Operator will also be responsible for directing helpers and truck drivers, managing load weights, and maintaining accurate records of work performed.

Requirements

  • One year certificate from college or technical school preferred.
  • Three - five years of heavy equipment operation.
  • NCCCO or NCCER Preferred
  • Trained/Certified in Crane Signals
  • Knowledge of communicating through radios.
  • American and Manatewok cranes ranging from 40 to 150 tons.
  • Hydraulic and friction rough terrain and lattice boom.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and schedule pressures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Perform basic mathematical functions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High performance and a strong team player.
  • Commitment to company values and safety program.

Responsibilities

  • Operate assigned equipment safely and in accordance with good industry practices.
  • Move levers, depress foot pedals, or turn dials to operate cranes, cherry pickers, electromagnets, or other moving equipment for lifting, moving, or placing loads.
  • Clean, lubricate, and maintain mechanisms such as cables, pulleys, or grappling devices, making repairs as necessary.
  • Inspect cables or grappling devices for wear and install or replace cables, as needed.
  • Inspect ground conditions and set up accurately.
  • Manipulate cables, chains, shackles, and other equipment.
  • Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload.
  • Direct helpers engaged in placing blocking or outrigging under cranes.
  • Direct truck drivers backing vehicles into loading bays and cover, uncover, or secure loads for delivery.
  • Load or unload bundles from trucks or move containers to storage bins, using moving equipment.
  • Review daily work or delivery schedules to determine orders, sequences of deliveries, or special loading instructions.
  • Weigh bundles, using floor scales, and record weights for company records.
  • Log hours and work performed for each lift.
  • Read and understand load chart and range diagrams.
