About The Position

The full-time Craftsworker position on the Sewer & Drain team of the Water, Sewer, and Drains division performs technical labor, operating specialized equipment to help maintain and repair the water, sewer, and drains system, handwork relating to current projects, snow and ice treatment and removal, and preparing routine records and reports. Requirements

  • Valid MA Driver’s License
  • CDL Class A or B
  • One (1) to three (3) years of directly relevant experience.
  • High school, plus elementary technical training, acquired on the job or through one year or less of technical or business school.
  • Ability to work with a team or independently.
  • Demonstrated communication and customer service skills with members of the public.

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 10 Hour Training required at time of hire or the ability to obtain within 1 year of employment.
  • CDL Tanker Endorsement
  • Hoisting License 2A, 1C, 4E, 4G
  • Grade D1 or T1 Water license
  • Water meter knowledge and experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs skilled and semi-skilled craft work, including construction, maintenance, and repairs to utilities infrastructure related to water, wastewater & stormwater systems; water lines; pipes, manholes, culverts, sewer & drain services.
  • Repairs and maintains water hydrants.
  • Operates a variety of motor driven vehicles and equipment including front end loader, backhoe, excavator, Vactor, Jet – Flush truck etc.; uses a variety of power-driven and hand tools to perform assigned tasks
  • Ensures that all safety precautions are followed while carrying out various public works-related projects.
  • Prepares routine records, logs, and reports; responds to routine inquiries, requests, and complaints from the public or contractors.
  • Mandatory participation in the Snow & Ice Program; may include road treatment, plowing, snow hauling, etc.; provides backup, support, and assistance for other DPW projects as needed.
