About The Position

BAE Systems is seeking to hire Craft Supervisors to support the Electric Boat Fabrication. This role involves supervising manpower and material to meet schedule milestone requirements, reviewing project schedules and budgets, controlling labor and materials, and ensuring production work is completed on schedule and within budget. The supervisor will participate in the planning process, direct personnel, assign work, and ensure the skill level of personnel meets job requirements. They will also perform ship checks and estimate work as needed, and comply with all company policies and procedures. The Craft Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision and oversight of trade personnel, leading the department to successfully complete assigned work within budget and on time. This includes integrating work efforts with other craft supervision to adhere to the overall project schedule, planning and scheduling work, ordering materials, and managing and developing staff through leading, motivating, training, and disciplining. All new employees will be subject to a background investigation and customer approval.

Requirements

  • Must have at least 8 years in fabrication experience.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding, knowledge, technical skills, and concepts related to ship fitting, welding, and blueprint reading.
  • Understand and working knowledge of NAVSEA specifications and NAVSEA Standard items, MIL-STD 1688, 1689, USCG, ABS, and other marine guidelines.
  • Must be able to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures and government regulations.
  • Must be able to clearly write reports, business correspondence, manuals, and procedures.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Must have the ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must be able to climb up and down stairs and/or ladders of varying heights to complete the job or inspections.
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors under all weather conditions.
  • Must be physically and medically qualified to wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Able to obtain and maintain access to Electric Boat Fabrication and BAE Facilities.
  • Responds positively and decisively in normal and emergency situations.
  • Ensures compliance to all environmental, health and safety policies and quality standards.
  • Selected Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain "DBIDS" access card.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous fabrication experience is highly preferred.
  • May substitute equivalent experience training and/or certifications for the degree.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise manpower and material to support schedule milestone requirements.
  • Review project schedules and budgets during ship availabilities.
  • Control labor and materials.
  • Ensure that assigned production work is completed on schedule and within budget.

  • Lead the Shipfitter/Welder Department to successfully complete assigned work within budget and on time.
  • Work to ensure that the overall project adheres to schedule by integrating work efforts with other craft supervision.
  • Planning and scheduling of work, ordering materials.
  • Management and development of staff which includes leading, motivating, training and disciplining and management of craft resources.
  • Lead and oversee fabrication operations in support of Electric Boat programs, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with production schedules, quality standards, and customer requirements.
  • Provide direct leadership to welders, fitters, and fabrication personnel while coordinating closely with Electric Boat and BAE Systems stakeholders to resolve production challenges, improve productivity, and maintain schedule performance.
  • Drive accountability, workforce development, safety compliance, quality, and continuous improvement while ensuring alignment between BAE Systems and Electric Boat fabrication requirements.
  • Assists planners, managers, and superintendents with workflow and strategy.
  • Responsible for identifying, evaluating, and training craft employees to meet requirements of job.
  • Responsible for supervising activities and managing costs to ensure production and quality of work performed meets specifications, costs, and schedules.
  • Responsible for maintaining all machinery and equipment for specific operational performance and optimum utilization as well as ensuring inspections remain current.
  • Responsible for enforcing worker compliance with following appropriate procedures in the areas of production, accuracy control, safety, cost, and quality assurance.
