About The Position

The Craft Manager is responsible for identifying and ensuring appropriate actions are taken to support the timely and effective completion of assigned tasks. This includes ensuring company policies and practices are followed in all phases of project performance and personnel-related functions, such as hiring, supervision, performance management, terminations, promotions, and demotions. The role ensures employees comply with Company policies and procedures and that the Trade pursues Company goals for Safety, Quality, and Productivity. Responsibilities include developing and/or reviewing project schedules and budgets, allocating personnel and resources, overseeing and monitoring schedule and cost performance, monitoring productivity across all shifts, and performing personnel-related functions. The position requires training and motivating employees in technical knowledge, safety, environmental awareness, and communication. This role demands a complete understanding and application of principles, concepts, practices, and standards, with full knowledge of industry practices and the ability to develop solutions to complex problems.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent degree.
  • Minimum of 10+ years’ shipyard and/or industry experience.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge in the relevant craft.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, supervise, coach and develop subordinates and direct the work of other employees in the relevant trade or industry.
  • Ability to use discretion and judgment in making operations and personnel decisions.
  • Proficient computer skills required including experience with Microsoft Office programs and similar software.
  • Subject matter expert within crane and rigging craft.
  • Previous supervisory role and experience in managing 50-100+ employee workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and/or review project schedules and budgets during the planning phase.
  • Allocate personnel and resources to efficiently support all contracts (including shift work).
  • Oversee and monitor schedule performance and cost performance, including review of ongoing and upcoming projects, investigation of late activities, project supervision, and the development of practical solutions.
  • Monitor and evaluate project budget performance, including review of ongoing and upcoming projects, development of productivity enhancements, investigation of over-budget items and Earn Value Management (EVM) and understanding.
  • Monitor productivity across all shifts, including the amount and type of work assigned as well as the quality and quantity of work accomplished.
  • Perform personnel related functions including, but not limited to, the supervision of employees, performance management, workforce reductions, promotions, demotions and discipline.
  • Ensure that employees understand and adhere to Company policies.
  • Train and motivate employees in the areas of technical knowledge, safety, environmental and communication.
  • Apply principles, concepts, practices, and standards of wide application of technical principles.
  • Develop solutions to a variety of complex problems.
  • Give clear work instructions to employees.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Read blueprints (where applicable).
  • Read and understand work specifications - NAVSEA standard items.
  • Obtain DBIDS.
