About The Position

This role is responsible for conducting training and providing technical expertise related to visual testing (VT) and weld inspection. The individual will deliver classroom and hands-on training, mentor inspector candidates, administer examinations, and maintain records of NDT experience hours. The position also involves conducting audits, performing technical reviews, identifying areas for process improvement, and collaborating with various departments to enhance welding quality and inspection effectiveness. Additionally, the role may require performing visual weld inspections, assisting with special projects, and traveling periodically to support business needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum four years of experience as a weld inspector, welding technician, or related welding role.
  • Strong working knowledge of welding processes, weld discontinuities, fabrication practices, and weld inspection techniques.
  • Ability to effectively teach and communicate technical concepts in both classroom and hands-on settings.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, specifications, and quality procedures.
  • Ability to evaluate inspector competency and provide constructive technical feedback.
  • Ability to work effectively with production personnel, engineers, weld technicians, inspectors, and management.

Nice To Haves

  • Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
  • Candidates without a current CWI certification must possess the qualifications and commitment necessary to obtain CWI certification or equivalent within one year of hire.
  • Experience working within manufacturing, heavy fabrication, wind tower, structural steel, or pressure vessel environments.
  • Familiarity with NDT certification requirements and industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct classroom and practical training for Visual Testing (VT) inspectors and weld inspection personnel.
  • Deliver hands-on training focused on weld discontinuity recognition, weld acceptance criteria, inspection techniques, and inspection documentation.
  • Mentor and coach inspector candidates to improve technical knowledge and inspection proficiency.
  • Administer visual acuity examinations in accordance with applicable certification requirements.
  • Administer General, Specific, and Practical examinations for VT Level II candidates.
  • Track, verify, and maintain NDT experience hours required for initial certification and recertification of inspection personnel.
  • Conduct overchecks and audits of previously accepted wind tower sections to verify inspection effectiveness and compliance.
  • Perform quarterly technical reviews and inspector performance evaluations as required.
  • Identify trends, recurring defects, and opportunities for improvement in inspection and welding processes.
  • Collaborate with Welding Engineering, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Leadership, and NDE personnel to improve welding quality and inspection effectiveness.
  • Provide technical guidance and support regarding weld quality requirements, inspection methods, and acceptance criteria.
  • Perform visual weld inspections and related quality activities on an as-needed basis to support production requirements.
  • Assist with special projects, audits, customer visits, and quality investigations as required.
  • Travel periodically to support training, audits, qualification activities, or other business needs.
