About The Position

We are seeking students entering their final year of a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Fall 2026 and working towards their Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation for our 2027 CPA Rotational Leadership Program. This program offers hands-on experience in Finance and Internal Audit under the guidance of experienced professionals and a CPA Mentor. The 24-month program (closer to 30 months with breaks) is designed to ensure participants meet the Professional Work Experience requirements for their CPA designation. Year 1 focuses on Internal Audit (11 months, counting towards 10 months of work experience), involving risk-based audits, assessing controls, and working with business management. Year 2 focuses on Finance (15+ months, counting towards 14 months of work experience), involving financial analysis, reporting, and developing reporting systems. An optional third-year rotation can broaden experience in assurance, accounting, taxation, or other teams within CFO Groups, Asset Management, Investor Relations, Internal Audit, or Finance Shared Services. The program aims to build knowledge of clients, business, industry opportunities and threats, and regulatory changes.

Requirements

Graduating in Spring 2027 with an undergraduate degree.
Registered with CPA Ontario and have met the CPA Ontario admission requirements.
A recognized degree or equivalent.
At least 120 credit hours (or equivalent).
A minimum GPA that meets CPAO’s requirements across those 120 credit hours.
Successful completion of the Knowledge Assessment or CPA Qualifying Courses (7 required and 8 additional business courses).
Successfully complete a graduate program with an Accredited PSI, such that you are eligible to write the Professional Final Examination (Part 1 – Core and Part 2 – Leadership) in September 2027.
A strong academic record, with a GPA of at least 70%.

Responsibilities

Gain hands-on experience in Finance and Internal Audit.
Work towards your CPA designation with support from an approved CPA Mentor.
Complete a work plan to meet the Professional Work Experience requirements for your CPA designation.
Complete the CPA Professional Program requirements.
In Year 1, gain Assurance experience by planning and conducting risk-based audits while rotating through multiple audit teams.
Assess the design and operational effectiveness of controls.
Work directly with business management and communicate issues along with action plans for their resolution.
In Year 2, be accountable for financial analysis and reporting.
Prepare and reconcile financial information.
Develop new or enhanced reporting systems, policies, procedures and controls to meet user requirements and changing circumstances.
Option to select an elective third year rotation to broaden or deepen your experience with assurance, accounting, taxation or other teams.
Build knowledge of CIBC clients and business, emerging opportunities and threats to the banking industry, and changing external regulations and accounting requirements.
