The Alaska Court System is accepting applications from compassionate individuals to become Court Visitors in Anchorage, Kenai or Palmer. The ability to travel within Alaska is required, but planned. Experience working with rural Alaska communities or knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities of rural Alaska is preferred. The ACS is required by Alaska Statute to provide court visitor services. The ACS contracts with individuals across the state to provide these services. A Court Visitor is appointed when a petition for adult guardianship or conservatorship is filed to investigate the involved person and their circumstances, and recommend to the court an appropriate resolution. Court Visitors are reappointed every three (3) years to review and report to the court regarding existing guardianship and conservatorship cases. Court Visitors also participate in psychotropic medication proceedings in psychiatric facilities, and offer an opinion as to whether the patient has capacity to give or withhold informed consent for medications. There is a mandatory 10-hour training that is reimbursed at the ACS training rate, however, given that Court Visitors are contractors, there is some unreimbursed training and administrative tasks.
