About The Position

Part-time/On-call – no guarantee of hours Douglas County Sheriff's Office. To provide security duties of a uniformed officer in the Justice Hall court rooms. Essential functions: Maintain order, discipline and security of the courts while they are in session assuring the safety and security of the courts and its participants. Assure secure work areas for support staff; conduct inspections of court facilities; operate metal detector, telephone, vehicle and handcuffs. Answer questions and interpret policy and procedures for judges, law enforcement officials, attorneys, and the public. Requires regular and consistent availability.

Requirements

  • Certified or previously certified City, County, or State Police law enforcement officers only.
  • Reasonable knowledge of the court system and familiarity with both walk-through and hand-held metal detectors.
  • Skill in listening techniques and principles.
  • Requires skill with a semi-automatic pistol.
  • Ability to qualify with a semi-automatic pistol semi-annually.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in written and oral forms.
  • Ability to relate to and deal with aggressive or emotionally disturbed individuals.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently.
  • Ability to remain calm and use good judgment during confrontational or high pressure situations.
  • Ability to make decisions independently in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to use initiative and judgment in completing tasks and responsibilities.
  • Ability to utilize problem identification and resolution techniques.
  • Ability to establish and maintain records, reports and statistical data.
  • Ability to courteously meet and deal effectively with other employees, law enforcement officials, court personnel, attorneys, public agencies and the public.
