About The Position

This position is for a Court Reporter II, SR-27, in Honolulu, Oahu. In addition to a base salary, Judiciary Court Reporters are entitled to additional compensation for preparing transcripts in accordance with Hawaii Revised Statutes section 606-13 and the Rules Governing Court Reporting in the State of Hawaii. The new salary rate is effective July 1, 2026. The role involves taking verbatim records of civil, criminal, and Grand Jury court proceedings, transcribing and certifying typewritten transcripts, and performing other required duties.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school. Work experience which required the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions or a high degree of verbal skill may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Ability to take verbatim dictation at 225 words per minute in question and answer testimony
  • Ability to take verbatim dictation at 200 words per minute in jury charges
  • Ability to take verbatim dictation at 180 words per minute in literary
  • Ability to transcribe such dictation at an acceptable rate
  • Possess a current certificate as a Hawaii Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) issued by the Supreme Court through the Hawaii Board of Certified Shorthand Reporters, or a Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certificate issued by the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA).
