About The Position

The Fifth Judicial District is seeking a full-time Court Operations Leadworker I for the Blue Earth County Criminal Team. This position involves advanced court clerical work, functioning as a lead worker with responsibilities in complex case processing, training, and operational support for the criminal team. The role requires independent judgment and a thorough understanding of court operations, software, policies, and procedures. The Leadworker I will ensure criminal work is performed accurately, timely, and in accordance with court rules. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Court Administrator or Court Operations Supervisor. The primary work location is the Blue Earth County Justice Center, with potential for remote work based on business needs. Standard work hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Considerable court operations experience and experience with case processing; this level would be obtained through three or more years of relevant work experience; or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of the operations, functions, and scope of authority of the court or activity to which assigned.
  • Considerable knowledge of court accounting/bookkeeping principles and practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with a diverse group of court stakeholders, judicial officers and MJB staff in person, on the telephone, and during courtroom proceedings as needed.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters and files appropriately and in compliance with all applicable court rules, policies and statutes.
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to make work decisions in accordance with laws, regulations, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ability to organize workflow and meet deadlines as well as plan, coordinate and provide training and guidance for the daily work of other employees engaged in a variety of activities.
  • Ability to maintain a variety of complex manual and electronic records and prepare reports from such records.
  • Ability to perform court work both quickly and accurately, and to focus on priority tasks while keeping track of multiple simultaneous duties.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Three or more years' experience working as a Court Operations Associate.
  • Previous leadership experience, such as team lead.

Responsibilities

  • Performs specialized court clerical duties such as processing complaints, petitions, motions, and other documents using the court’s electronic case processing system and related applications and equipment.
  • Exhibits a high degree of proficiency to perform and complete work assignments in a timely and accurate manner using MN Court Information System (MNCIS), eFS, Task Manager, eCharging, and other related systems as needed.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for criminal case processing, using knowledge, training, and resources to keep abreast of new policies and procedures.
  • Provides training, feedback and coaching on use of computer systems, case processing, and court procedures in all aspects of criminal case processing.
  • Serves as a liaison between team members and team supervisor, overseeing the team in the supervisor’s absence and provides essential feedback on performance, progress, backlog, and personnel issues.
  • Monitors court operations processes to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, rules, and guidelines; reviews and checks the work of staff to ensure quality control. Consults with supervisor on quality concerns.
  • Monitors reports to ensure work is being performed accurately and within compliance. Spot checking or reviewing work to verify it meets established standards and compliance.
  • Answers financial questions and processes financial transactions by receipting credit, cash, check or money orders. Reconciles daily tills and completes bank deposits accurately.
