Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least three (3) years of responsible experience in a moderately complex office or business setting involving the processing of financial, administrative, or legal documents.
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to three (3) years of experience that typically supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
  • Experience performing a variety of clerical or administrative support tasks with strict deadlines in a busy business or professional setting.
  • Experience using a variety of software programs to access and input information and complete various tasks.
  • Experience providing customer service to a variety of individuals in challenging circumstances.
  • Skill in writing and reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Experience handling cash or credit card transactions, generating receipts, and crediting accounts.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Check in individuals for their court appearances.
  • Help customers who need court-appointed counsel with their paperwork.
  • Review applications for accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct brief financial interviews.
  • Determine eligibility for court-appointed counsel.
  • Research potential attorney conflicts.
  • Assign court-appointed attorneys based on availability and case type.
  • Prepare orders and forms for making recommendations to the court.
  • Work closely with the public, defendants, and local indigent defense firms.
  • Perform data entry.
  • Scan documents.
  • Report defendant check-in information to the court.
  • Provide coverage for the Traffic and Violation Unit by accepting traffic pleas, entering dispositions, and assessing and collecting traffic fines.
  • Provide customer service at a public counter, answering questions about court appearances and court appointed attorney assignments.
  • Verify payments and balances for criminal and traffic cases.
  • Process payments made in person, over the phone, and by mail, including receipting and entering data into the case management system and the point-of-sale program.
  • Prepare a bank deposit slip daily.
  • Balance the cash drawer.
  • Turn in all cash, checks, and other payments for deposit or nightly storage in the court safe.
  • Assigned tasks may be changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs.
