About The Position

The Court Liaison works in conjunction with the Director of Clinical Services to ensure the successful administration and management of the legal processes that are required of area court’s regarding involuntary patients, while adhering to patient rights. This is a part-time position, Monday - Friday, 9 am - 1 pm. Aiken Regional Medical Centers is a 273-bed acute care facility providing healthcare to the residents of Aiken and surrounding communities since 1917. The facility has been recognized for its treatment of heart conditions and stroke, and offers comprehensive services including behavioral health, emergency care, orthopedic surgeries, maternity, rehabilitation, imaging, and wound care.

Requirements

  • A degree from an accredited college or university in social work, mental health, nursing, or related degree.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a healthcare setting or managed care company, with experience in patient assessment, treatment planning, utilization management, and/or case management.
  • A strong knowledge of SC, Joint Commission, HCFA, OSHA regulations, and patient rights standards and all other applicable federal and state laws and regulations governing mental health care facilities.
  • The court liaison must be a self-starter, able to work alone and under time deadlines and possess superior organizational and interpersonal skills and ability to function in a team atmosphere.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, organize, monitor and ensure compliance with legal processes that are required for court committed and/or Involuntary patients.
  • Support the Director of Clinical Services in providing the management and administration of the legal processes that are required by area courts regarding involuntary patients.
  • Maintain constructive and productive internal and external communications with staff, managers, providers, vendors, and funding sources.
  • Assist with the delivery of patient services as needed, to include psychosocial assessments, treatment planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of other services, to achieve patient goals for involuntary patients.
  • Attend weekly treatment team meetings corresponding with physicians regarding involuntary patients.
  • Ensure that patients are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with Hospital P&P, Patient’s Bill of Rights, regulatory standards of care.
  • Attend assigned trainings; maintain necessary certifications, i.e. CPI/CPR/State Licensing Board, etc.
  • Attend and actively participate in supervision and staff meetings.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Strictly follow all agency performance standards.
  • Interface with community agencies related to delivery of clinical services, education and recruitment.
  • Provide services to current referral sources to assure their satisfaction and continued associations.
  • Allocate and coordinate program resources for marketing and referral development activities.
  • Provide education, support and recognition to staff participating in referral development activities.
  • Assist in collaborating with the Director of Business Development to develop, implement and monitor a target marketing plan for the legal processes, working with the courts, attending community meetings, and assisting with court committals as requested.
  • Provide for guest relations and ensure the appearance of the facility and manner in which program staff communicates with patients, families, referral sources and fellow staff is effective and professional regarding involuntary patients.
  • Ensure the implementation of an ongoing system of program orientation for patients, families and professionals and others.
  • Involve appropriate facility management in all decisions, and review these decisions with DCS prior to implementation.
  • Collaborate with DCS in assuring adequate supervision and evaluation processes for all staff members and delegate these responsibilities as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with DCS in assuring adequate orientation for new employees, attending physicians/licensed practitioners and Allied Health Professionals regarding court procedures.
  • Aid DCS in providing for educational needs and professional development of staff, which may include planning and presenting educational sessions regarding court procedures.
  • Collaborate with DCS in ensuring an adequate system of communication and reporting is maintained between all staff members, as well as other departments involved in the ongoing court procedures of involuntary patients.
  • Work with DCS in creating a structure that best meets the needs of the organization, particularly department organization related to legal processes.
  • Coordinate with patients, families, hospital personnel to ensure that process adheres to applicable patient rights and mental health code.
  • Coordinate the collection of outcome data within the corporate deadline.
