About The Position

Prisma International, Inc. (Prisma) is a language services provider seeking experienced Court Interpreters to join their independent contractor team. The role involves providing interpretation services to the New Hampshire Judicial Branch (NHJB) through Onsite (OSI), Video Remote Interpretation (VRI), or Over-the-Phone Interpretation (OPI) services. OSI requires travel to NH court locations, VRI involves prescheduled video remote interpretation, and OPI uses prescheduled over-the-phone interpretation. Prisma is particularly interested in interpreters fluent in Spanish, Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, Haitian Creole, Nepali, Portuguese, Swahili, and Vietnamese, but welcomes applications in other languages if minimum requirements are met.

Requirements

  • Completed training that aligns with the National Center for State Courts (NCSC) model curriculum in three core areas: Interpretation Techniques, Legal/Court Terminology, and Interpreter Ethics.
  • Proficiency in English and the target language through an approved assessment (e.g., NCSC recognized tests, state judiciary language access program tests, LTI/ACTFL OPI/OPIc assessments, ALTA speaking and listening assessment).
  • Agree to undergo annual criminal history background checks.
  • Strong understanding of court procedures.
  • At least one (1) year of interpreting experience in a court setting.
  • Two (2) professional references who can confirm status as a court interpreter.
  • Minimum age: Must be 18+ years or older.
  • Minimum education: Must have High School Diploma.

Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite (in person) interpretation services at NHJB court houses.
  • Provide prescheduled video remote interpretation services (e.g. via Zoom) to multiple NHJB courts.
  • Provide prescheduled over-the-phone interpretation services (via Boostlingo) to multiple NHJB courts.
  • Deliver correct concepts and meanings between speaker and the Limited English Proficient (LEP) speaker.
  • Ensure correct grammar, clarity and tones between English and the interpreter's native language.
  • Follow speakers’ direction, professionally interject when clarification is needed, and manage the flow of a conversation.
  • Refrain from side conversations with the LEP and entering into any disagreement with the customer or LEP.
  • Comply with applicable interpreter ethics and standards.
