About The Position

The New Jersey Judiciary is seeking a dynamic Assistant Criminal Division Manager with excellent leadership, interpersonal, flexibility, problem-solving, and organizational skills to lead the vicinage Pretrial Services Program. This role operates under the direction of the Court Executive 2B (Criminal Division Manager) and involves leading the vicinage Pretrial Services staff, acting as a liaison, and serving as an expert resource for pretrial services within the vicinage. The position is based at the Morris County Superior Courthouse but may require travel to the Sussex County Judiciary Center and other judiciary locations. The Judiciary offers a hybrid work schedule, potentially allowing for up to 2 days of remote work, provided high-speed internet access and multifactor authentication are available. The role is part of a large team dedicated to upholding high standards of independence, integrity, fairness, and quality service, contributing to meaningful work that impacts the public and builds trust in the court system.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree.
  • Three years of professional administrative experience, one of which shall have included experience in reviewing court activities for compliance with laws, court rules or administrative directives; consulting with judges, attorneys and law clerks; evaluating case management systems; coordinating activities between agencies, government and enforcement units; and/or preparing and analyzing case processing statistical reports.
  • Possession of a driver's license valid in New Jersey if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US.
  • Must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting.
  • Must establish and maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey within one year of hiring, in accordance with the "New Jersey First Act" (exemptions may be requested).

Nice To Haves

  • An associate's degree and two years of additional professional experience may be substituted for the required bachelor's degree.
  • A master's degree may be substituted for one year of experience.
  • A law degree may be substituted for two years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work with local stakeholders such as the Prosecutor, Public Defender, and County Jail.
  • Ensure adequate staffing for the Pretrial Services Program.
  • Provide judges with necessary reports and information for pretrial release decisions.
  • Oversee the scheduling, processing, and handling of detention motions.
  • Collaborate with the Assignment Judge, Trial Court Administrator, Criminal and Municipal Court Presiding Judges, and division managers to monitor and ensure compliance with program guidelines and procedures.
  • Review statistical reports, identify and correct issues, and recommend program improvements.
  • Manage vicinage's pretrial services officers and their supervisors.
  • Assign work, provide guidance to staff, and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Conduct training for staff and stakeholders.
  • Engage in community outreach related to criminal justice reform.
  • Perform related duties as required.
  • May be required to work some holidays, evenings, and weekends.
