About The Position

The Court Administration Supervisor provides leadership, supervision, mentoring and training for a large unit of Judicial Assistants, Courtroom Assistants, and Court Administration Assistants who provide case processing functions to Criminal Court Administration. Criminal Court is the largest division within Superior Court and we work in collaboration with other agencies to efficiently resolve felony cases in a just manner while respecting the rights of defendants, victims and the community. This supervisor recruitment is specific to the Criminal Department in the Initial Appearance Court Unit (IA Court) for a Night/Weekend shift. IA Court is a 24-hour operation, located at the Intake Transfer and Release (ITR) Facility: 2670 South 28th Drive, Phoenix, AZ 85009. This position will require working in a jail/court facility environment that runs court dockets every 3 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Hours of Work: Please note that the working hours for this position are four ten-hour evening/night shifts as listed below. This schedule includes working on Holidays that fall on these days unless otherwise approved off. Wednesday: 7:30pm to 6:00am (30-minute lunch) Thursday: 7:30pm to 6:00am (30-minute lunch) Sunday: 7:30pm to 6:00am (30-minute lunch) Monday: 7:30pm to 6:00am (30-minute lunch )

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Five (5) years of court, legal or directly related experience
  • One (1) year of experience in a supervisory role OR Combined education and experience qualifications: Related post-secondary education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis
  • A completed Arizona Court Supervisor (ACS) certification or Certified Court Manager (CCM) certification may substitute for one year of experience
  • Knowledge of: Effective supervisory techniques and practices
  • Legal terminology, court policies and procedures, courtroom proceedings; particularly those that relate to the preservation of the court record
  • Principles and processes for providing customer service including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction
  • Skill in: Computer software such as iCIS, MS Office software such as Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Supervising and evaluating assigned staff, coordinating work of subordinates
  • Orally and verbally communicating with others to convey information effectively
  • Establishing and maintaining cohesive working relationships with others
  • Decision making and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to: Excel in a high volume and time sensitive work environment
  • Lead and coordinate the work of others
  • Research and analyze complex data while drawing effective conclusions
  • Coach, motivate and mentor staff

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree in a related field
  • Knowledge of Criminal Court case flow and processes
  • Enrollment in or completion of the Arizona Court Supervisor (ACS) Program

Responsibilities

  • Monitors daily operations and coordinates court activities, ensures goals and objectives of the Criminal department are met
  • Supervises, organizes, assesses, and evaluates the workload of staff, modifies the workload and assignments as needed
  • Coordinates the hiring, training, and performance evaluation of staff
  • Establishes performance goals, objectives, and measures for annual performance evaluation
  • Prepares internal and external management information reports regarding workload, caseload, and service level trends
  • Develops or modifies standardized procedures related to report generation and data control
  • Regularly reviews rules, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance within the Criminal department and to make recommendations for revisions
  • Prepares statistical reports for departments
  • Conducts unit meetings on a regular basis with staff; attends department meetings
  • Prepares various communications to Judicial Officers and other court staff
  • Investigates and responds to complex public complaints and requests for information or service in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Participates in committees/special projects and provide input to internal and external stakeholders
  • Provides regular onsite or in-person supervision to assess business needs by observation, by monitoring group dynamics with face-to-face interactions and through the use of body language/nonverbal communication, engages in interpersonal bonding, and models expected behaviors.
