About The Position

The Peter Guo-hua Fu School of Architecture at McGill University is seeking applications for a Course Lecturer position for the Winter 2027 term. The role involves instructing ARCH 406 - Design and Construction 4, which will be offered as vertical option studios. Students will be assigned through a preference-ranking exercise in fall 2026. The course focuses on the detailed study and comprehensive development of architectural proposals for complex building types and site conditions, exploring coherent initial concepts in relation to programmatic requirements, image, and form, and elaborating on these to create meaningful and technologically viable designs for the built environment. Instructors may propose themes such as the Lyceum 2027 competition, sustainable housing, civic cultural programs, or community engagement. The instructor will work closely with colleagues and administration to confirm scope, schedule, and assignments, and finalize deadlines and tests with the larger team. All candidates will collaborate with the Director and Studio Coordinator to ensure course material aligns with University Calendar regulations, the School's pedagogical objectives, and Canadian Architectural Certification Board Student Performance Criteria (CACB – SPC). The appointment runs from January 4 to April 30, 2027, with compensation set at $17,800 for 6 credits.

Requirements

  • M.Arch. or equivalent (first professional degree).
  • Professional practice and/or post-secondary teaching experience in architecture.
  • Appropriate technical, digital and/or critical, theoretical expertise for the course.
  • Active in the profession.
