About The Position

This position is for a Course Lecturer for FDSC 442, Food Microbiology, for the Fall 2026 session at McGill University. The course covers fundamental principles of food product development, from concept to marketplace, with an emphasis on applying knowledge of food chemistry, food technology, and related disciplines. The course involves lectures and labs, and the lecturer is expected to be available for the final exam period and to grade exams and post final grades. Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree in Food Science or Food Microbiology.
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated experience/in-depth knowledge of course content, including topics in food microbiology such as natural flora, spoilage, methods of control, shelf-life extension, detection and control of food-borne pathogens, and the use of micro-organisms in food production.
  • Doctoral students in the final term may also be considered.
  • Ability to teach in-person.
  • Familiarity with virtual learning platforms (e.g., Zoom, WebEx) and the McGill MyCourses learning management system.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver lectures and conduct labs for FDSC 442 Food Microbiology.
  • Be available on the day of the scheduled final exam.
  • Grade final exams.
  • Post final course grades on Minerva.
  • Utilize virtual learning platforms (e.g., Zoom, WebEx) and the McGill MyCourses learning management system.
  • Adhere to Articles 12.01 and 12.03 of the MCLIU Collective Agreement.
