About The Position

This role involves assisting with the development, instructional support, and training analysis for operational and logistical requirements to support SBTC. The Course Lead will employ expertise in curriculum development, question and test development, effective classroom and lab instructional techniques, training aids, student progress measurement, and course management. Subject matter expertise includes developing, revising, and maintaining courses of instruction. Responsibilities also include writing correspondence, utilizing various computer programs and devices (MS PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, Navy’s Sked program, smart boards), communicating effectively with foreign trainees, developing public speaking techniques, managing interpersonal relationships for team cohesion and deadline management, applying Operational Risk Management knowledge, and presenting information to leaders and trainees daily. The role involves assisting with course management, training analysis, and curriculum/test question development. The Course Lead will communicate with government representatives, training officers, learning standards officers, boat drivers, engineers, technicians, contractors, vendors, and manufacturers to aid in curriculum development. Coordination of schedules for operational, communications, and maintenance courses to support Field Training Exercises (FTX) is also a responsibility. The role includes revising and implementing long-range plans for curriculum updates, assisting with training analysis for weapon systems, engines, navigation, and communications equipment, and evaluating training aids. Instruction will be provided on the inspection, maintenance, modification, technological developments, and operation of SOF unique watercraft, as well as program and technical support for watercraft equipment and weapon systems, adhering to specific Naval Instructions. The Course Lead must complete criteria to be designated as Range Officer in Charge (ROIC) and Range Safety Officer (RSO). Additional duties include planning inputs for curriculum development and maintenance, coordinating the training program, maintaining Instructor-Training Records (ITRs), supporting the instructor certification program, conducting instructor evaluations, collecting and analyzing feedback from student critiques and exams, ensuring exam security, assisting with Academic Review Boards, and maintaining databases like eTARS and CANTRAC.

Requirements

  • Six (6) years’ leadership and instructor experience in a formal training environment with no degree, or four (4) years’ leadership and instructor experience in a formal training environment with a degree or certificate in either Education or Instructional Development.
  • Four (4) years’ experience as a Navy Enlisted Qualification (NEC 805A) Instructor or sister service equivalent.
  • US Navy Master Training Specialist (MTS) certification or another agency equivalent.
  • Six (6) years’ experience in course curriculum management.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in oral communication principles, methods and techniques.
  • Shall be fluent in English.
  • Five (5) years of military leadership and training experience in providing and planning instruction aimed for an international military audience.
  • Courses taught incorporate the use of dynamic and static small arms “Live Fire” action during course of instruction.
  • Shall be able to maintain Level 1 Fitness Standard: Able to manipulate all equipment utilized within courses; able to on and off-board all vessels utilized within courses; able to sustain being underway during training evolutions.
  • Be able to work non-standard schedules.
  • SECRET clearance required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the management of assigned courses.
  • Assist with training analysis, instructional support, and utilize skills in the methodology of curriculum and test question development, effective classroom instructional techniques, employment of training aids, student progress measurement strategies and course management.
  • Utilize written and oral communication principles, methods, and techniques; analytical methods; and interpersonal relations practices.
  • Assist in analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum for assigned courses, to determine the need for new or revised curricula.
  • Communicate with the Government Representative, Training Officer (TO) and Learning Standards Officer (LSO), boat drivers, engineers, technicians, contractors, vendors, and manufacturers to assist in the development of new curricula.
  • Assist with coordinating schedules between Operational, Communications and Maintenance related courses to support end of course Field Training Exercises (FTX).
  • Assist in revising, developing, and implementing long range plans to anticipate and incorporate new procedures and technological developments into the respective curriculums.
  • Assist with training analysis and instructional support for various weapon systems, outboard engines, navigation, and communications equipment.
  • Assist with evaluating training aids and providing recommendations to determine need for upgrades or changes.
  • Provide instruction and information regarding the inspection, preventative maintenance, modification, technological developments, and operation of SOF unique watercraft.
  • Provide instruction and information regarding program and technical support for various watercraft equipment and weapon systems in accordance with specific Naval Instructions.
  • Complete all specific criteria in accordance with COMNAVSPECWARCOM INST 3591.1C and be designated in writing by the Commanding Officer, in order to conduct duties as Range Officer in Charge (ROIC) and Range Safety Officer (RSO).
  • Assist with planning inputs to the Learning Standards Office (LSO) and Course Curriculum Model Monitor (CCMM) relating to the development, maintenance, or revision of their assigned course.
  • Assist with coordinating the training program with all assigned personnel and maintain Instructor-Training Records (ITRs).
  • Assist and support the instructor certification program and in coordinating the evaluation program.
  • Assist with conducting scheduled and unscheduled contractor instructor evaluations to ensure quality training and delivery techniques are utilized.
  • Assist with collecting and analyzing feedback from student critiques, course exams, and instructor feedback and provide training quality indicator summary data to the Learning Standards Office (LSO), Training Manager (TM) and the Course Curriculum Model Manager (CCMM).
  • Provide observation and assistance to ensure exam security and testing during exams and testing.
  • Assist with Academic Review Boards.
