About The Position

This course focusses on the criminal use and trafficking of firearms as defined by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. This course will be framed by the UNODC’s Global Firearms Programme, and its implications for controlling and regulating firearms. Students will be presented with the fundamental role of firearms in both criminal and security contexts, and topics covered may include the implications of the illicit firearms trade; its impact on social and state institutions; and comparative studies of selected regulations. This course curriculum was developed in partnership with the UNODC.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree
  • MA in Criminology, Sociology, or a related discipline that is clearly and directly connected to the course content.
  • CV (Maximum of 10 pages, with 12-point font and 2.54 cm margins).
  • Candidate Application Form (CAF - Appendix I).
  • Verification of highest degree (for external applicants).
  • Name and contact information for referees (for external applicants).

Nice To Haves

  • PhD or PhD in progress.
  • Work and/or research experience related to international organizations and pan-national treaties.
  • Prior teaching experience.
  • Teaching Dossier and/or relevant supplementary documentation (Maximum of 25 pages in total, with 12-point font and 2.54 cm margins).

Responsibilities

  • Teach UNDC202 VAA –Trafficking of Firearms course.
  • Develop and deliver course curriculum in partnership with the UNODC.
  • Present fundamental role of firearms in criminal and security contexts.
  • Cover topics including implications of illicit firearms trade, impact on social and state institutions, and comparative studies of selected regulations.
  • Assess student applications based on the Candidate Application Form (CAF), Curriculum Vitae, and any specifically referenced pages in supplemental documents.
  • Manage a class size of up to 140 students.
  • Provide supplementary remuneration for marking and grading allowance.
  • Coordinate large classes or multi-section courses.
