About The Position

This position is responsible for picking up and delivering specimens, reports, supplies, x-rays, and mail to physician offices and other entities while maintaining a schedule and documentation. The Courier works with the Transportation Coordinator to ensure route schedules are up-to-date and communicates any changes. This role also involves keeping work areas clean and well-stocked. Critical responsibilities include following up on problems or errors by collecting documentation for lab managers, assisting in reviewing processes for improvement, and participating in the training of new employees to ensure all transportation staff receive appropriate training and maintain competency. The Courier may also participate on hospital committees and transportation teams, look for ways to improve customer service, provide input for revising and presenting new procedures, and assist with supply ordering and restocking. Additionally, this role supports team and patient care by being available to cover vacation and sick time for coworkers. Decision-making impact is limited to the employee.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write and understand conversational English.
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years driving experience.
  • Current Oregon or Washington driver’s license, be at least 21 years old with minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the type of vehicle being driven.
  • Possesses customer service experience.
  • Uses effective communication skills.
  • Personal appearance makes a good first impression.
  • Flexible, able to work to meet the needs of the department.
  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining competency in all areas where training was completed.
  • Demonstrates confidentiality according to PHI regarding patient and co-worker information.
  • Demonstrates problem solving and prioritizing skills in order to meet deadlines for deliveries and pickups.
  • Functions as a cooperative transportation and laboratory team member, supporting others and assuming team leader or facilitator role when requested.
  • Must provide own transportation.
  • No more than: one (1) accident and two (2) moving violations or two (2) accidents and one (1) moving violation or no accidents and three (3) moving violations on or off the job.
  • No conviction for driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII), license suspension, auto felony conviction or other serious violations within the past 36 months.

Nice To Haves

  • Phlebotomy and/or laboratory experience helpful.
  • Bilingual skills a plus.
  • Familiar with local area being served.
