About The Position

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County has 2 positions available for County Fair Milk Bar Managers working full-time from the Lockport, NY location. The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County Milk Bar Manager is responsible for management of the Milk Bar before, during, and after the Niagara County Fair. Job functions include selling a variety of food and various items to the public.

Requirements

  • High School or Equivalent Education.
  • Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in English.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate a cash register.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Knowledge of health department rules and regulations regarding food safety
  • Ability to understand and follow safety regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to follow directions for safe food handling and preparation.
  • Knowledge of food preparation.
  • Ability to communication effectively with others.
  • Ability to work with children and adult volunteers.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and assume responsibility with general guidelines and direction.
  • Basic Computer Skills including use of e-mail and computer-based time collection.
  • Ability to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation: frequently work in outdoor weather conditions including extreme heat, precipitation and cold; occasionally lift, move, or transport materials or supplies; requiring regular physical activity including walking, standing, bending, and stretching.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with clientele, staff, volunteers, and the public in a courteous and respectful manner at all times.
  • Set up and organize Milk Bar for operation prior to the fair and clean up after fair.
  • Deep clean milk bar prior to the fair. Ensure daily cleaning and maintenance.
  • Ensure Milk bar is clean and organized throughout the day.
  • Maintain and organize supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate daily inventory of food and supplies used and on hand.
  • Assist with reviewing inventory and ordering of food and supplies.
  • Ensure food and supplies are re-stocked daily.
  • Receive and log any deliveries.
  • Review inventory sheet from previous year and make suggestions.
  • Supervise the preparation of quality food products.
  • Supervise and ensure efficient system of service of food products.
  • Maintain all health code requirements.
  • Support volunteer management procedures are followed according to established policies and procedures (VIP) by providing guidance, leadership and resources for volunteers and volunteer leaders.
  • Orient and train Milk Bar volunteers.
  • Follow all procedures for proper management and handling of cash/cash equivalents. Maintain logs and controls for all cash as instructed.
  • Maintain a safe, positive, and supportive atmosphere during all activities.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
  • Work closely with Association staff to ensure efficient Milk Bar operations and safety.
  • Comply with established health and safety regulations and guidelines including OSHA/PESHA regulations.
  • Effectively manage emergency and work-related situations seeking guidance from Supervisor as needed.
  • Provide a list of suggestions and make recommendations for the 2027 Milk Bar fair operations.
  • Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected, accessed, and/or maintained.
  • Provide data and information to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others as requested.
  • Transport self and/or program materials/resources necessary for performing position responsibilities.
  • In cooperation with the Supervisor, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.
  • Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and events as scheduled/required.
  • Support the association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and other duties as assigned.
  • Conduct all programming and activities in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Aware of, and adheres to, established Cornell Cooperative Extension Association policies, procedures, processes, and Skills for Success.
  • Represent Cornell Cooperative Extension to the public, community leaders, colleagues, volunteers, members of Cornell University faculty and staff, government officials and the general public in a professional manner at all times.
  • Perform all assigned duties in a professional, timely, and accurate manner.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
