About The Position

Deputy District Attorneys advocate on behalf of the People of the State of Colorado, seeking just outcomes grounded in evidence-based decision-making while safeguarding the community and reducing unequal treatment in the criminal justice system. This position is assigned to County Court in the District Attorney Division and represents the Office of the District Attorney.

Requirements

• A JD is required.
• Applicants must be licensed attorneys or law school graduates eligible for admission to the Colorado bar.
• Upon hire, gain admission to the Colorado bar and remain licensed to practice law in Colorado.
• A valid Colorado driver’s license is required within 30 days of hire for positions involving driving on County business in a county or personal vehicle.
• Successful completion of required criminal history, motor vehicle report, education verification, and/or reference checks.

Responsibilities

• Manage a county court docket and develop trial skills while representing the Office of the District Attorney.
• Work collaboratively with office and court staff, and meet with victims, witnesses, and defense attorneys.
• Assist in preparing briefs, opinions, motions, pleadings, other legal documents, and routine correspondence; conduct legal research as required.
• Demonstrate trial skills in jury selection, opening statements, direct and cross-examination, and closing arguments.
• Exercise discretion in charging, case dispositions, and sentencing recommendations, evaluating cases holistically to determine appropriate outcomes for all parties.
• Attend training on the role of a prosecutor, diversion and treatment options, and restorative justice programs.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
