About The Position

This is entry-level professional social services work in a public child welfare agency. Employees provide supportive casework and case management services to children, youth, and families to ensure child safety, permanency, and well-being. Work is performed under close supervision with structured training and ongoing guidance.

Requirements

  • Employees receive structured on-the-job training and mentoring.
  • Participation in Pennsylvania Child Welfare Resource Center training is required.
  • Work assignments are progressively increased in complexity as skills develop.
  • Work is performed under the close supervision of a Casework Supervisor and/or experienced casework staff.
  • Assignments are reviewed through conferences, record review, and observation.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in assessing family functioning, strengths, and needs.
  • Participating in home visits and interviews with children, parents, and caregivers.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of Family Service Plans (FSPs).
  • Providing basic supportive services to families, including guidance on parenting, housing, and access to resources.
  • Making referrals to community agencies and assisting families in accessing services.
  • Observing and documenting child safety and well-being during contacts.
  • Preparing case notes, summaries, and required documentation in agency systems.
  • Assisting with court-related activities, including preparation of reports and documentation.
  • Attending case reviews, team meetings, and supervisory conferences.
  • Participating in required county and state training programs.
  • Learning applicable laws, regulations, and policies including the Pennsylvania Child Protective Services Law.
  • Performing on-call duties as assigned (after training period).
  • Performing related work as required.
