About The Position

As a County Caseworker 2 with Allegheny County Children & Youth Services, you will help families work through challenges and build stronger foundations. This role offers meaningful, people-centered work that changes lives every day. You will be part of a supportive agency that believes in teamwork, growth, and community. Use your skills to lift up children and families when they need it most. This role focuses on supporting families from the moment they are referred to the agency until their involvement ends. The position centers on investigation, planning, service coordination, and documentation to ensure child safety and family progress.

Requirements

  • Six months of experience as a County Caseworker 1; or Successful completion of the County Social Casework Intern program; or A bachelor's degree with a social welfare major; or A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of professional social casework experience in a public or private social service agency; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license which is not under suspension.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must pass a background investigation.
  • Submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct interviews, visits, and record reviews to assess child safety and determine service needs
  • Lead conferencing processes, prepare families, and guide teams in building effective Family Plans
  • Develop reports, petitions, and testimony materials required for hearings and legal proceedings
  • Maintain accurate records and enter case information in required systems according to regulations
  • Connect families with supports, monitor progress, and provide crisis intervention when necessary
  • Oversee children in placement and maintain contact with families, foster caregivers, and service partners
