About The Position

Wayne County Human Services, Children & Youth Agency (located in Honesdale, PA), is seeking motivated and compassionate individuals who are committed to making a positive difference in the lives of children and families. This position in the Intake Screening Unit focuses on helping children and families overcome challenges by gathering information, offering guidance, and connecting them with needed support. The work involves communicating with families, maintaining accurate records, and taking steps to ensure child safety.

Requirements

  • Six months of experience as a County Caseworker 1; or Successful completion of the County Social Casework Intern program; or A bachelor's degree with a social welfare major; or A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of professional social casework experience in a public or private social service agency; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
  • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct interviews to obtain information from clients, family members, and others to identify barriers affecting childrens ability to thrive
  • Assist families in planning changes that lead to healthier lifestyles for their children and provide needed referrals
  • Manage a caseload while keeping all records organized, clear, and current
  • Assist in providing protective and supportive services in situations of abuse, neglect, or risk to children
  • Provide counseling to help clients and families adjust to challenging situations and work toward solutions
  • Prepare materials and, with supervision, attend court hearings to present information on case progress when required
