About The Position
Wake County is seeking a strategic, service-driven legal leader to serve as its next County Attorney. This role involves navigating complex legal matters and providing trusted counsel to elected officials and County leadership. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished legal executive with extensive knowledge of public sector and local government law, possessing the judgment necessary to advise elected officials and senior leadership. Wake County is a rapidly growing area in North Carolina's Research Triangle, known for its strong economy, excellent public services, and high quality of life, with an estimated population of 1,257,235.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited school of law
- Active North Carolina Bar License
- Equivalent education and experience substitutions are not accepted
Nice To Haves
- 20 years of professional legal experience as an attorney
- 10 years of experience working across various areas of law
- 12 years of substantial knowledge of constitutional, federal, state, and local laws affecting municipal government
- 12 years of experience advising and representing administrative and quasi-judicial boards and Commissions
Responsibilities
- Providing trusted counsel to elected officials and County leadership.
- Navigating complex legal matters.
- Advising elected and appointed boards on complex legal and policy matters.
- Providing legal counsel in local government law, litigation, risk management, and contract negotiation.
