About The Position

The Counter Sales Associate serves customers at Airgas’s retail shop in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, providing industrial, medical, and specialty gases, welding equipment, and other essential supplies. The role combines customer interaction with operational support: advising customers on tools, hardware, materials, and procedures; demonstrating equipment; and helping customers complete their projects. The associate also supports sales, transactions, merchandise coordination, inventory presentation, and safe branch operations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of experience in product, warehouse, or sales environments, or an equivalent combination of education and life experience.
• Excellent customer service skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting.
• Attention to detail when handling transactions.
• Availability for occasional overtime when the team needs extra support.
• Ability to work in a drug-free workplace.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in industrial retail, inside sales, or inventory control.
• Background in gas, welding, or safety supplies.
• Familiarity with SAP, Google, or MS Office applications.
• Detailed understanding of SAP and PROS functionalities.
• Ability to communicate clearly and warmly with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Follow company policies, including safety requirements and the use of personal protective equipment.
• Provide excellent customer service to internal and external partners and foster long-term relationships.
• Accurately complete required paperwork, including coding, costing, and pricing.
• Identify appropriate tools and procedures for customers’ tasks and demonstrate equipment use.
• Enter orders, process transactions, and help reconcile deposits.
• Communicate with customers and team members by phone, email, and in person about costs and delivery.
• Contribute to an outgoing call strategy that supports branch growth.
• Coordinate merchandise transfers between locations to meet customer needs.
• Maintain a supportive and positive work atmosphere with customers, vendors, and colleagues.
• Stock shelves and maintain welcoming showroom displays.
• Coordinate cylinder movement and pallet organization.
