About The Position

Airgas is hiring a Counter Sales Associate in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. This role combines customer interaction with operational support in an industrial environment. The associate helps customers select industrial, medical, and specialty gases, welding equipment, and other supplies by advising them on tools, hardware, and materials and demonstrating equipment use. The position also supports transactions, inventory and merchandise movement, showroom upkeep, and branch growth while following company safety policies and using required personal protective equipment. The position is Monday through Friday with no weekend work. The hourly rate is $23–$24. Occasional overtime may be needed when the team requires extra support.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 2 years of experience in product, warehouse, or sales environments, or an equivalent combination of education and life experience.
Excellent customer service skills and ability to work in a fast-paced setting.
Attention to detail when handling transactions.
Availability for occasional overtime when needed.
Ability to operate in a drug-free workplace.

Nice To Haves

Experience in industrial retail, inside sales, or inventory control.
Background in gas, welding, or safety supplies.
Familiarity with SAP, Google, or Microsoft Office applications.
Detailed understanding of SAP and PROS functionalities.
Ability to communicate clearly and warmly with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Responsibilities

Follow company policies, including safety requirements and use of personal protective equipment.
Provide excellent customer service to internal and external partners and build long-term relationships.
Accurately complete required paperwork, including coding, costing, and pricing.
Help customers identify appropriate tools and procedures for their tasks and demonstrate equipment use.
Enter orders, process transactions, and assist with reconciling deposits.
Communicate with customers and team members by phone, email, and in person about costs and delivery.
Contribute to outbound calling efforts to support branch growth.
Coordinate merchandise transfers between locations to meet customer needs.
Maintain a positive and supportive work atmosphere with customers, vendors, and colleagues.
Stock shelves and maintain welcoming showroom displays.
Coordinate cylinder movement and pallet organization.
