About The Position

The Counter Clerk is responsible for providing exceptional service to both retail and professional installer customers by accurately identifying, locating, and selling automotive parts and accessories. The role involves a combination of customer-facing service, inventory handling, and technical support, contributing to the operational success of the store.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 years’ experience in automotive parts, customer service, or retail environment.
  • Automotive or technical training.
  • ASE Certification or familiarity with cataloging systems (e.g., Weatherly Index).
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficient computer skills with POS and inventory management systems.
  • Knowledge of automotive systems, parts, and components.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work on your feet for extended periods.
  • Valid driver’s license (for occasional delivery duties, if required).

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers promptly, courteously, and professionally at the counter or over the phone.
  • Identify automotive parts based on vehicle specifications (make, model, year).
  • Advise customers on appropriate parts, use, and care; recommend related or premium items.
  • Process transactions including cash, credit, check, returns, and exchanges in accordance with company policies.
  • Accurately manage the cash drawer and POS transactions.
  • Maintain product knowledge and stay updated on catalog changes and industry trends.
  • Assist with freight receipt, shelf stocking, merchandising, fronting/facing, and cleaning.
  • Operate store equipment (e.g., brake lathe, battery charger, diagnostic tools) following training and policies.
  • Deliver parts occasionally when needed and if eligible under company driving requirements.
  • Perform various store services (install wipers, test batteries, scan codes, etc.), as permitted.
  • Complete training modules required for role effectiveness.
  • Support inventory cycle counts and monthly stock adjustments.
  • Address and resolve customer concerns in a professional and positive manner.
  • Uphold safety, wellness, and company protocols.
