About The Position

The Counselor (LADC or ADC-T) provides direct therapeutic counseling, assessment, and case management services to clients in Progress Valley’s treatment programs. This role supports clients through individualized treatment planning, group facilitation, and crisis intervention while modeling Progress Valley’s mission and core values. Counselors collaborate with the clinical team to ensure comprehensive, person-centered care and uphold the highest standards of ethical and professional practice. Requirements

  • Current MN license: LADC or ADC-T.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 12 hours of training in co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Ability to pass DHS Rule 11 background check.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy and strong organizational skills.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to obtain.
  • Ability to relate effectively to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Valid driver’s license and favorable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Complete admission documentation including Individual Abuse Prevention Plan, Initial Services Plan, and Release of Information forms.
  • Develop diagnostic evaluations and individualized treatment plans based on client strengths, needs, and preferences.
  • Facilitate therapeutic, behavioral, and educational group sessions using evidence-based practices.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation including assessments, treatment plan reviews, and discharge summaries.
  • Uphold confidentiality and adhere to all applicable laws and agency policies.
  • Communicate clearly, respectfully, and constructively with clients and staff.
  • Collaborate with internal and external professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Regulate emotions during stress or conflict and listen to understand.
  • Follow through on commitments and responsibilities.
  • Take accountability for outcomes within the role.
